King muDDfish added a link to the South Florida Blues Society to it's site (see the left border) and urge all blues lovers to join and support the society. January 15, 2004 -- The producers discussed the press proofs with the CD manufacturing plant. The only differences between the electronic proofs and the press proofs will be the color variation and it will be the last chance to change anything. Well, the colors are going to be what they are, King muDDfish ain't changing them...and the artwork isn't gonna change either. So, to shave 2 days off the production schedule, Bowfin Records waived the press proofs and instructed the CD manufacturer to proceed full steam ahead. January 14, 2004 -- The electronic proofs of the "Hook Water Wolf" CD were received and approved today. This paves the way for the CD manufacturing plant to produce a "press proof" which is a physical specimen of the artwork for final approval. After approval of the press proof, its full steam ahead for final manufacturing of the CD's. January 13, 2004 -- "Hook Water Wolf" has been delivered to the CD manufacturer. After some quick exchanges of proofs, Bowfin Records expects to have the CD's in hand for delivery to music lovers worldwide by the end of the month. There could be some glitches that could delay delivery; but we're thinking positive that all will be OK. January 10, 2004 -- Mike, Caryn, Dan and Kim went to the BamBoo Room to see Sonny Landreth. Their seats were outside, looking through a window next to a stage. It was cold...like 50, and the wind was blowing. Some people sitting at the band table saw us and invited us in to sit with them to get out of the cold (and perhaps to close the window). Really nice. So last minute tickets turn into the best seats in the house, right? That's not all. There's more. So Mike, Caryn, Dan and Kim are sitting with these nice people, enjoying the show, and Sonny Landreth invites the guy at the table to come up and sing a song with him. Turns out the guy who had the kids come in out of the cold and sit with his party was none other than Jimmy Buffet. Nice move Jimmy. Thanks. King muDDfish owes you one. King muDDfish evolved from two previous bands -- Routon Heath (1971 to 1973) and Dream City (1974 to 1983)Routon Heath was the high school band that Dan Newman, Kirk Mitchell, Phil Boyle and Mike Edwards formed in an attempt to shed their nerdy geekyness. Dan and Mike played guitar, Kirk played bass, Phil played drums. It was a jam band... That's right. Routon Heath was a jam band...like 30 years before its time...or so the boys like to think. Routon Heath did long extended improvisational jams to songs such as "Spoonful", "Good Morning Little School Girl", "Dark Star", "Turn On Your Love Light", "Midnight Rambler", as well as a whole slew of original songs. The boys favorite bands were The Allman Brothers, Greatful Dead, Cream, Humble Pie, Fleetwood Mac, Quicksilver Messenger Service and King Crimson. Dream City was formed in the summer of 1974. The philosophy was to shed the jam band mentality and become a band that played songs people knew and loved, and to play those songs the way the original hit-makers would have played the songs live. While that sounds pretty much like a cover band...well, it was...but it was a cover band with a twist. Other bands were trying to sound like the radio. Dream City tried to sound like Led Zepplin live, Jethro Tull in concert, Humble Pie on stage, ZZ Top arena style, Wishbone Ash.... As one would expect, it was a relatively successful commercial local band with marginal potential for true creative success. The struggle of trying to make money musically and maintain the "Band Image" made any efforts at being truly creative and expressive tertiary. The jam band mentality was suppressed. The philosophy was doomed to bar band hell at a time when disco ruled and no one wanted to hire bands anyway. Good excuse, eh? OK, ok, ok...Dream City was not exactly the young man's wasteland. The boys learned valuable lessons: discipline can be beneficial, independence good/dependency bad, playing stuff that is appealing to the audience is appealing (in other words, the band is there for the people, the people aren't there for band, the band and the people are there for the music), and the boys learned that jamming can be good for the soul. Twenty years later, after two decades of meditation, the boys returned to do what they were meant to do............... |
